First Vinyl record or CD
Permalink

It's always interested me to find out where the music started for fans & dj's. What was the first record or cd that you bought?

My first was a Christmas present consisting of three[3]LP's & one [1]45 rpm: Chubby Checker-Let's Twist Again / Dee Dee Sharp-Mashed Potato Time / Dion-[not sure of the title] the 45 was "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the Tokens.....not a very impressive lot with Dion running ahead of the pack!

When I finally scraped up enough money to purchase records I went to a local shop that sold a little bit of everything [Jersey City] and went home with two precious 45's: Gene Chandler-The Duke of Earl & Bunker Hill-Hide & Seek pts.1&2.......the Bunker Hill started off a lifelong quest for wacked music as it featured Link Wray & the Wraymen as the backing band. Didn't know who Link was just dug the crap out of it.

My older sister Janet brought home Bob Dylan's first and the race was on!!

Great question!  The first records that came into our house was, technically, attributable to my brother.  The year:  1962...The only records in the house were big band and show tunes, belonging to my parents...I was seven, my brother 12...He had some money and spent it on two 45's...They were "Sherry" by the 4 Seasons and "Monster Mash" by Bobby 'Boris' Pickett.  So, it was actually my brother's doing.  But, back then our record collections were filed together.  I do not remember the first ones I bought with my own money...
