Caterpillar Compression Brake Solenoid Test Guide

Caterpillar Compression Brake Solenoid Test function allows brake wiring or solenoid problems to be identified when the engine is not running. This test does not verify proper brake valve actuation.

Accessing
To run the Compression Brake Solenoid Test function:

Select Diagnostic Tests from the Diagnostics menu, and then select Compression Brake Solenoid Test from the submenu. The Compression Brake Solenoid Test screen is displayed.

Screen Layout
The Compression Brake Solenoid Test screen has the following areas:

Tree Area
The Injector Solenoid Test Tree area lists the available ECMs and the selected diagnostic test.

Note: If more than one diagnostic test is available, the selected test will be highlighted.

Display Area
The Compression Brake Solenoid Test display area has three columns:

Description Lists the available brake solenoid numbers
Mode Displays the current mode of the solenoid; i.e., whether it is Powered or Cutout
Test Result Displays "Open," "Short," or "OK" after the test has completed
Buttons
The Buttons available on the Compression Brake Solenoid Test screen are:

Change Click to change the state of the solenoid. Changing the state allows for solenoid troubleshooting by cutting out and subsequently repowering an individual brake solenoid.
Power All Click to return all solenoid to the powered, or active, state.
Cutout All Click to change the state of all solenoids to cutout.
Start Click to begin the test. Once clicked, this button is disabled until the test is stopped.
Stop Click to stop the test. Once clicked, this button is disabled until the test is restarted.
