What was the first song you chose to start off your radio life with?
Mine was an accident......when I got into the studio [3am shift] the two dj's that were on before me [Joe Melillo & George McManus] were yuckin' it up and before I knew it George says....."you're on in 10 seconds"......I grabbed the first CD that I could find, threw it in and before I could recover Depeche Modes' Personal Jesus was blasting over the airwaves........McManus who was a Michael Jackson fan commented....."Great song!!" and he meant it.
I guess he wasn't that far off as Johnny Cash did a spooky rendition of it years later.
Up and Bustle &outwindmill from the Back to Base album on Ninja tunes one of my Favorite Trip hop traks has a real swing jazz feel to it and is still one of my Faorite tracks
I played Nat King Cole on my very first show for personal reasons but I kept playing him until I could figure out how the board worked. Carl Worner "What's It Called?"
I started off with the Butthole Surfers' "Lady Sniff." the first weird music i had heard as an impressionable teen, it seemed only right to start the show off with it.
Since I am a big Johnny Cash fan, the first song I played on the air was the version of "Folsom Prison Blues" from the Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison album. I wanted the first words I played on the air to be the Man In Black saying, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash."
